Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Equipment that individuals use as a shield to protect themselves from hazards and other infectious materials is called personal protective equipment. PPE certification ensures that products are manufactured to harmonized standards and meet PPE regulations. A harmonized standard also specifies the requirements for manufacturing the product.

PPE products must comply with Regulation 2016/425 (latest version) to enter the business markets of European countries. PPE ensures the safety of the wearer. Regardless of occupation, firefighter, laboratory technician, medical practitioner, or craftsman, having durable and quality personal protective equipment is essential to protect yourself from life-threatening hazards and incidents. Therefore, PPE must comply with applicable safety requirements.

PPE testing

A PPE test certificate from the IAS proves that your PPE product complies with the specific requirements of the PPE Regulation. We conduct the necessary tests as per the relevant test standards to verify the effectiveness of your product. In addition, PPE products manufactured under 2016/425 must comply with the Essential Health and Safety Requirements (ESHR) in the PPE Regulation.

Certification of personal protective equipment for a variety of productsBased on the level of risk, all PPE products are classified into three categories according to EU Regulation 2016/425.

• Category I includes PPE products that help protect the wearer from minimal hazards. That is, hazards are caused by contact with water or cleaning materials, sunlight Products in this category are gardening gloves, sunglasses etc.

• Products which do not fall under category I and III are considered as category II. This includes PPE products such as safety glasses and goggles, industrial helmets, bump caps, high visibility clothing, etc.

• Category III includes breathing apparatus, fall equipment, life vests, chemical protective clothing etc.

PPE manufacturers must undergo compliance tests in accordance with the 2016/425 EU Regulation to verify the quality and robust performance of their products. To obtain PPE certification, manufacturers must prepare a technical file containing testing reports and information about the results of your PPE.
