Directive On Restriction Of Hazardous Substances On ROHS
ROHS stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, originated in the European Union and prohibits the use of certain hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products. After 1 July 2006 all applicable products on the EU market must pass RoHS compliance.
The substances banned under ROHS are lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (CrVI), polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE). Banned materials are hazardous to the environment and contaminate landfills, and are hazardous in terms of occupational exposure during manufacturing and recycling.
Portable ROHS analyzers, also known as X-ray fluorescence or XRF metal analyzers, are used to screen and verify ROHS compliance.
Any business that sells applicable electronic products, subassemblies, or components directly to EU countries, or sells to resellers, distributors, or integrators who in turn sell products to EU countries, is affected. . .
If they use any prohibited materials, they must be ROHS. Complied by any organization involved in the production, sale or distribution of electrical and electronic equipment for the EU market.
